Nothing defines a true blackwater habitat quite like coconut debris. Coconut Husks are a staple botanical for creating authentic flooded forest and riverbank environments. Whether used whole as a dramatic centrepiece or divided into smaller sections, coconut husks provide natural shelter, grazing surfaces, and structure that bring blackwater aquascapes to life.

These husks release high levels of tannins, deeply tinting the water and helping replicate the soft, acidic conditions found in tropical blackwater ecosystems. Their fibrous texture encourages heavy biofilm development, making them a favourite for shrimp, plecos, and other bottom-dwelling species. Coconut husks are also excellent for fry tanks, where they can be used to culture paramecia naturally.

All Castle Dawn Aquatics botanicals are organically sourced and naturally sun-dried without the use of chemicals or ethanol.

Scarlett J. ★★★★★

My betta immediately started weaving through the gaps in this thing, which is exactly the flooded-forest look I was after. It's genuinely huge too, so it anchors the scape instead of floating around like smaller botanicals do. Tannins darkened the water within a day.

Adam O. ★★★★★

Placed this whole husk in my tank and the size is perfect—it sank immediately and started releasing tannins within hours. My shrimp are already grazing on the surface, and the blackwater effect looks incredibly natural.

Avery H. ★★★★★

Skeptical at first since it's just a coconut husk, but the size is genuinely huge and it sank within a day without any pre-soaking tricks. My betta immediately started patrolling around it, and the tannins have that flooded forest look I was after.
