Category: Aquarium Aquatic Aquascaping Botanicals

One of our all-time favourite blackwater aquarium botanicals, the Sterculia Pod is both visually striking and highly functional. These durable seed capsules, often called “Jungle Pods,” are perfect for creating natural shelters and spawning caves for species such as Apistogramma, Corydoras, and wild Betta.

Once waterlogged, Sterculia Pods become slightly malleable, allowing aquascapers to gently shape them into custom designs for a realistic flooded forest floor aquascape. As they slowly decompose, they release high tannin levels and beneficial organic material, providing a natural food source for shrimp, plecos, and microfauna.

Joseph ★★★★★

I've had these soaking in my 40-gallon for about three weeks now and the tannins they release are a gorgeous deep amber without turning the water murky. The pods themselves are sturdy enough that my pleco can't shred them like he does with softer leaves.

Abigail P. ★★★★★

Dropped a couple in my betta tank and the amber tint they release is exactly what I wanted for a natural look. They've held their shape perfectly for three weeks now.

Timothy ★★★★★

These pods are way bigger than the ones I've bought before, and they sink straight down instead of floating for days. My betta loves weaving between them, and the tannins have that nice tea-colored tint without clouding the water.
