Kurrajong Pods are one of our favourite botanicals, perfect for elevating the aesthetics of a blackwater aquarium. Not only do they add visual appeal, but they also create great hideaways for smaller fish and shrimp. While native to Australia, and therefore not suitable for biotopes specific to other regions, these pods can still add a unique touch to your blackwater setup.

TIP: Kurrajong Pods tend to close up when submerged. To prevent this, boil them and then place them in the freezer for 24 hours—this should mostly keep them from closing up in your aquarium.

Ruby M. ★★★★★

These took my blackwater tank from flat brown to proper tea-colored in about two weeks, and my ember tetras immediately started weaving between them. The 15 pack gave me enough to scatter across the whole bottom without it looking cluttered.

Samuel V. ★★★★★

Dropped a couple of these into my blackwater tank and the tannins started tinting the water within a day. The pods are sturdy enough that my smaller fish have been using them as caves, and they look way more natural than the plastic hides I had before.

Ellie V. ★★★★☆

The pods are a nice size for creating little caves that my smaller fish actually use. They do leach quite a bit of color, so I had to do a couple extra water changes at first, but the tannin tint settled into a lovely natural look for the tank.
