Magnolia seed pods are often called the everlasting gobstoppers of aquarium and vivarium botanicals. Their hard, woody exterior allows them to last far longer than most natural botanicals, making them a favourite for aquarists and bioactive keepers who want structure that endures.

As these pods condition in water, they develop rich layers of biofilm that encourage natural grazing and foraging behaviour in freshwater shrimp, plecos, and other bottom-dwelling species. Magnolia seed pods are also widely used in amphibian and axolotl setups, where the biofilm provides a natural supplementary food source for axolotl tadpoles and microfauna.

Joseph ★★★★★

My shrimp tank has had these three pods in it for months now and they've barely broken down, which is way longer than the driftwood I tried before. They sink right away and give the bottom a nice natural look without clouding the water.

Daniel ★★★★★

These things are rock hard compared to the Indian almond leaves I used to buy, and they've been sitting in my tank for weeks without breaking down. My shrimp love grazing on the pods, and they give the aquascape a nice natural look.

Sebastian ★★★★☆

Tossed three of these into my 20-gallon betta tank and they sank straight down without any soaking, which was nice. The woody shells really do hold up way longer than the leaves and cones I usually use, though one pod had a chipped edge.
